Installing a New Faucet

November 19, 2015/ 0

One thing our Orange County and Los Angeles plumbers frequently encounter is the installation of new faucets. While it should be a fairly simple task and many people can handle it themselves, it’s always possible for complications to arise that require professional assistance. If you find yourself in such a situation, or are uncertain about handling the installation yourself to begin with, you can easily reach a friendly, highly skilled Orange County or Los Angeles plumber at Jack Stephan Plumbing.

If you decide to try installing the new faucet yourself, keep in mind that the following steps may be at variance depending on the types of fixtures and models you’re dealing with.

The first step is to shut off the water. Hopefully your sink will have its own shut-off valve, but if not, you will have to resort to shutting off all the water in the house. After opening the faucet to drain any remaining water, disconnect the water lines, either with a basin wrench or by hand. Also disconnect anything else that may be holding the faucet in place, including nuts.

Then, put the new faucet in the old one’s place and seal it down with putty, gaskets or sealants. Replace the nuts, water lines and lift rod before testing your handiwork. Make sure there are no leaks by running water to test.
